THE EDITOR, Sir:
IT IS with admiration and regret that I feel that this letter should be written. I am a 34-year-old person who has seen a WHOLE lot of things that are not right and far less things that are.
I listened to a report on TVJ news this evening, in which I heard a story of the MD of NCB speaking about the lack of accountability of the young men of Jamaica vis-a-vis their ability to sire young ones and not be held responsible for their actions. I admire the fact that someone of his prominence in our society has done so.
I admire the fact that he has highlighted this fact but regret that we have parliamentarians and more important, Ministers of Government, who have much more responsibility (but are not held accountable), who are not being pursued in the same way.
I hope that what is happening and being said publicly (or NOT) in Jamaica is not as a result of what happened in the lead up to, the forming of and the subsequent actions of FINSAC.
Has everyone become so afraid of questioning the actions of Government? Have all of our so-called leaders of business realised that if they do, they would be 'FINSACKED'?
If that is the case, I hope that there are at least a few of us, un-established as we are, who are still willing to stand up to those in 'control' and question the reasons why the squandering of money, the lack of action in cases highlighted by the human rights groups, the seeming lack of accountability of those responsible, etc.
I am etc.,
