Unsatisfactory service at RGD
published: Thursday | July 3, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

ON MARCH 14, 2003, I visited the RGD's office situated on Half-Way Tree Road and paid via the debit card facility a total of $1,170 for copies of Birth and Marriage certificates for three individuals including the writer's. Having paid several visits to the post office without receiving the above documents, I called the office from which the applications were made on June 24.

Suffice it to say that of the numbers listed (906-4344-7) it took almost an entire day to reach the office as these numbers were consistently busy. On the odd occasions when the telephone was answered, (twice 906-4345 and 6) I was told in the first instance to dial 906-4346 and in the second instance 4347, notwithstanding the extreme difficulties one experiences in trying to reach this office via telephone. On hearing on the second occasion that I was required to dial yet another number, I decided to call the RGD's head office in Twickenham Park.

The officer advised that no records of the application and payment were found excepting an application that was made via e-mail in 2002. She further advised that the writer makes contact with the Half-Way Tree office to request that a complaint sheet be sent to the Head Office. Naturally I protested.

Please publicise the matter on my behalf as the documents are urgently needed!

I am, etc.,
