Wasting money to get a UK visa
published: Thursday | July 3, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WOULD just like to tell my fellow Jamaicans about my visit to the British High Commission. I went there last week in an attempt to get a visa to visit that country with my two children for the summer. I took all the documents I was asked to take including my job letter to prove that I am a trained teacher. I took bank statements and other documents to prove my financial status.

I have been visiting the United States of America since I was a child and just wanted to visit some family members in England. I was turned down because the entry clearance officer said that I was going to go to England and leave my husband in Jamaica and not return after my visit.

It is my opinion that this new visa requirement is simply a money-making venture for the British high Commission. I have had friends who went to England with less than what I presented and immigration officers there let them into the country. I am not upset that I did not get the visa I am just upset that I wasted my hard-earned money.

I am etc.,
