Broadening democracy

THE EDITOR, Sir:
CONGRATULATIONS TO you Edward Seaga, Leader of the Jamaica Labour Party, for being innovative in Local Government issues. This is about the introduction of the five committees you mandated to work with the 12 Parish Councils that your party won in the recent Local Government elections.
Well, you are heading in the right direction in order to be the next Prime Minister of Jamaica because you have won the Local Government elections overwhelming and you have started to make an impact. I believe the Opposition Leader has now broadened the democratic process, and has transformed theory to practise with the introduction of the five committees. This will translate into better facilities and services in the everyday lives of the people. Edward Seaga has to demonstrate that he can turn the Local Government Elections results into a General Election win. He has monumental tasks, but he can achieve it. I would advise Edward Seaga to stay focused on the issues. Without a doubt, you are one of the most knowledgeable politicians in the Caribbean, but your inability to communicate with the electorate is what is causing the defeat of the Jamaica Labour Party.
