Sigma fraud case set for August
published: Thursday | July 17, 2003

AUDREY JOHNSON, former foreign exchange trading manager of Manufacturers Sigma Merchant Bank (MSMB) appeared in the Corporate Area Criminal Court and was ordered to return to court on August 28 when the fraud case against her will be mentioned.

Johnson, who is charged with defrauding MSMB of $68,000, first appeared in court on June 17.

Attorney-at-law Anthony Pearson, who is representing Johnson, told Senior Resident Magistrate Jennifer Straw yesterday that he was ready to proceed to trial.

Hansurd Lawson, Clerk of the Courts, informed the court that the police were asking for another mention so as to get two additional statements.

Mr. Pearson who was not in agreement with the application for an adjournment said police should develop the practice of completing the statements before arrests are made in fraud cases. He said there should be a firm assurance that all the statements would be ready on the next mention date.

Johnson's $50,000 station bail was extended for her to return to court on August 28.
