THE EDITOR, Sir:IT IS with great regret that I saw the television news and read in the Birmingham Evening Mail of the terrible incident at Treasure Beach in St. Elizabeth encountered by those women tourists.
It is a national disgrace. How can we expect visitors to come to our island only to be robbed and killed when we are badly in need of foreign exchange?
With gun killing so rampant these days I have some advice for the powers that be. Bring back the tamarind switch for the 14-to-20-year-olds with a minimum of nine strokes and the cat-o-nine tails for the 21-to-45-years-old with a minimum of 12 to 25 lashes. This would sort things out, paying no mind to the do-gooders and others who say it's barbaric.
Surely the victims have human rights too.
I am, etc.,
