THE EDITOR, Sir:THIS LETTER serves to reply to Jacqueline Wright in Manchester who wrote about CVM-TV's coverage of the World Netball Championships.
The writer cannot use one mistake on the part of the commentators to justify her point.
I do not believe that CVM is not interested in showing the other matches. They show quite a lot of the matches but as a general member of the public I am mainly interested in the matches Jamaica plays, and the matches I have watched are mainly those that Jamaica has played. Maybe we need to realise that, like the World Junior Athletics Championships last year, when Jamaica is on show we fill up the Stadium and watch the television like hawks. Therefore it is CVM's prerogative to ensure that we get to see ourselves over all other matches in the interest of the people of this country.
What one must also realise is that television and radio commentators are two different sets of people. Radio commentators have to be 100 times more descriptive since the listeners are most likely not watching the game. You, however, see the game when you watch the television and therefore the commentators do not need to talk as much.
I am etc.,
