Life as a conductress
published: Saturday | July 19, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I WANT to tell you about my life as a bus conductress. I was trained by and worked for National Transport Authority. In training I was to learn the work in one day but I had to stay on for a week before I was sent out on the job.

As a conductress, I must say I enjoyed my job as even those persons who are described as rude boys, were not hard to deal with.

Whether on the morning or evening shift, I had a good day. If I had a double shift I could be a little tense but still make it a good day.

Oh, it was so nice to wake up at 4 a.m. and tidy the house and have a refreshing bath and rush off to be on time for the 5 o'clock shift and to feel the cool, gentle breeze blow at White Marl on the Kingston-to-Spanish Town route. Passengers, driver and conductress were co-operative.

I worked for the company on two occasions as a conductress and was most often described as 'My Ductress'

I am, etc.,

MINNA A. ATKINS-DAVIS
