Aren't we of one faith?
published: Monday | July 21, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

THE ISSUE of Mormons has too often in Jamaica been dealt with on a negative basis.

A lot of people seem to have extreme problems with members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints whether of different faith or non-converts to Christianity. That's right; that's the name of our church. 'Mormons' is just a nickname.

The church simply bears the name of our Saviour and 'Latter Day' means the last days. This is God's kingdom in these last days. He is the head of our church and we give praises to Him, and our Heavenly Father. A time like this calls for a church like this. How grateful I am to know that there has been a restoration of the fullness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

We are different, I must admit, different for man but not for God. Being different does not make us wrong or misleading. There are so many blessings from being a member of this church. My plea to all Jamaicans give us a chance, be nice to missionaries; they are only doing the work of God and He sent them here for a reason. We have Jamaicans abroad doing the same work; it's their calling to spread the word of God.

The church in Jamaica is only doing good and not just in Jamaica alone but across the world. Our country needs this, especially since the church places such great emphasis on families. It's not "white people" church as it is commonly referred to, it's God's church. A church that He has restored for the benefit of salvation of all men. God loves everybody no matter what your faith is. We give praises to the same God, we are brothers and sisters in Christ, let's not fight. "One Lord, one faith, one baptism."

I am, etc.,
