PACKING IN the iron supplements is not a good idea. You could be putting yourself at risk for Parkinson's Disease, so suggests research coming out of the University of Washington School of Medicine, in Seattle, United States.
The researchers believe that a high intake of iron coupled with high intake of another substance, manganese, puts people at risk for this debilitating disease. They arrived at their conclusion after reviewing nutrient intake of a group of newly-diagnosed persons with Parkinson's (250 individuals) and a control group of 388 persons.
Though they made this iron and manganese link, they did not identify any strong associations with either antioxidants or fats.
It is believed by most nutritionists that most individuals will satisfy the recommended daily dose of iron which is 18 milligrams, from their regular meals containing food sources such as meat and poultry. So maybe you don't really need supplements unless you are a vegetarian or a woman people at higher risk of iron deficiency.
