Can the Gov't fight crime now?
published: Wednesday | July 23, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

WHEN IS the Government going to move to do something about the illegal taxi operators and the whole taxi system in this country?

There have been many rapes, deaths and mayhem committed against children by some members of this group. Now that the police force has been completely rendered powerless by the government, I wonder what the government is going to do about crime and the finding of this sick criminal and all other sick criminals.

As a result of how Senior Superintendent Reneto Adams is being treated by the government who has allowed outsiders to dictate terms and conditions to them, I feel the police should just report to work, make their presence known and go home at the required time.

Let the Minister of National Security and the Commissioner of Police fight crime themselves, with the assistance of the human rights groups.

I spoke with a family member living in the US and she confided in me that she spoke to one New York police officer who said that after the treatment of SSP Adams, he now understands why crime is so entrenched in Jamaica.

The police themselves are too fragmented and need to be more cohesive and loyal and protective of each other.

I am, etc.,
