Pagon, Johnson in top form
published: Wednesday | July 23, 2003

LOCALS DOMINIC Pagon and Damion Johnson continued their good form at the Cable and Wireless International Tennis Federation (ITF) Jamaica Junior International Tournament at the Liguanea Club, New Kingston yesterday.

Pagon cruised past Bermuda's Nathaniel Whitter 6-0, 6-1 to advance to the third round and a potential showdown with compatriot Jermaine Meikle or Russell Moseley of Barbados.

Johnson also marched into the third round with a straight sets triumph over Santiago Gruter of El Salvador, 6-3, 6-4.

Top ranked Bahamian Christopher Eldon also passed his second-round test with a 6-0, 6-1 thumping of American Charles Sartor.

The girls draw, which features only 32 players, has four Jamaicans aiming for quarter-final berths.

The immensely talented Tinesta Rowe, a Federation Cup representative, Vanessa Thwaites, Alexis Panton and Arielle Von Strolley are all shooting for places in the event's final eight.

However, the player to beat is No. 292 ranked Ellah Nze of the United States.
