Peace in Mountain View
published: Tuesday | July 29, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

During the last couple of weeks this community has had to grapple with the senseless loss of lives of over 12 persons. The police have been under extreme pressure trying to establish motive and reasons while maintaining a presence in the troubled communities of Jacques Road, Saunders Lane and Jarrett Lane.

Indeed, the general Mountain View area seem to be under siege and the complexity of circumstances are yet to be unravelled and put to rest once and for all. It is only through meaningful and long-term peace that the communities will experience growth and development, something I know that these residents are yearning for and have been for a long time.

I must applaud the effort of all the stakeholders in these communities, the PMI, the police for their effort and commitment to the maintenance of peace. I also applaud the residents of Back Bush who, while not being involved in this disturbance, have not allowed themselves to be dragged into this nightmare.

Let us be sincere with each other, let us love one another and ourselves and let us unite our effort to build our lives and our communities regardless of party preference, colour or socio-economic background.

I am, etc.,

DR. ST. AUBYN BARTLETT

Member of Parliament

Eastern St. Andrew
