Taking too long
published: Wednesday | July 30, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

The following is an open letter to the Prime Minister, the Most. Hon. P.J. Patterson:

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

AN APPLICATION ( death entry# BA6499, receipt # S 0256489, seven-day delivery) was made for six copies of a death certificate at the Half-way Tree office on March 21, 2003, after consultation with Ruth Ferguson of the Registrar General's Department's head office.

After numerous calls and visits to the Half-way Tree office I had to go to the head office to Ruth Ferguson to collect the certificates and ended up leaving them with her because of spelling errors on them.

To-date I still have not got the certificates despite letters and e-mails to Dr Patricia Holness of the Registrar General's Department and to the Minister of Health, who I understand Dr. Holness reports to. What can possibly explain why it is taking so very long to correct spelling errors on a death certificate?

I am, etc.,

Robert Gallimore
