By Kevin Clarke, Gleaner Writer

ALL IS set for the 51st staging of the Jamaica Agricultural Society (JAS) Denbigh Agri-Industrial show, which kicks off tomorrow at Denbigh, Clarendon.

"We are on the ball and we are ready," JAS President Norman Grant said yesterday.

And Patrick Anderson, the JAS's Chief Executive said, "we are 99 per cent there."

EXPECTED PROFIT.

The show, dubbed 'Save Jamaica's Agriculture Buy Local Products', runs until Sunday, August 3 and is expected to raise $5 million in profit.

Agriculture Minister, Roger Clarke, will be the main speaker at Denbigh tomorrow, while Prime Minister P.J. Patterson and Governor-General Sir Howard Cooke are slated to speak on Saturday and Sunday respectively.

Guyana's Agriculture Minister, Satyadeow Sawh and Gilbert McLean, Cayman's Agriculture Minister, will also participate at the show which is rated as the Caribbean's premier agricultural event. Other representatives from several Caribbean countries including St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines will attend. This year, three new features - a Science and Technology Park, a meat exhibition and a farmers' market will be introduced at Denbigh, according to Mr. Grant.

And preparations are far advanced for the National Champion Farmer, the Young Champion Farmer and the Farm Queen competitions.

The champion farmer will take home a cash prize.

St. Catherine farmer, Adeeb Azan, is the reigning National champion farmer and Leighton Davis the Young Champion Farmer.

Contestants in the farm queen competition will also be on show tomorrow.
