A house for Miss Lou?

THE EDITOR, Sir: MISS LOU has received many awards and accolades over her lifetime, both locally and internationally. However, I think that the Government of Jamaica should seriously consider rewarding Miss Lou with a house so that she may spend the balance of her retirement years in her beloved homeland of Jamaica. The Government of Jamaica rewards pieces of land etc. to athletes when it feels that their performance on the field of play warrants such a practical gesture. I think that a similar reward to Miss Lou would be an excellent gesture particularly at this stage of her life. There is no good reason why one of Jamaica's greatest and most beloved national treasures should not be offered and afforded the opportunity to spend her twilight years in her beloved homeland. Awards and accolades are great but let's give Miss Lou something a little more "concrete" this time around. I urge the Jamaican Government to seriously consider this timely gesture in honour of our beloved Miss Lou. I am, etc., PATRICK A. GALLIMORE E-mail: pagalley@hotmail.com
