Traffic changes in Montego Bay
published: Friday | August 1, 2003

THE URBAN Development Corporation (UDC) is advising that traffic on the Howard Cooke Boulevard/Alice Eldermire Drive in Montego Bay, St. James has been reduced to single lanes as a result of continuous improvement works being carried out on the roadway.

This will be in effect for the stretch of road from the Catherine Hall Police Station down to the Fairview Shopping Complex.

The changes have become necessary as the UDC continues to carry out improvement works under the dualisation project which will facilitate the construction of two additional lanes along the 3.5 kilometres of roadway. During this period, extensive drainage work, being done by WIHCON Infrastructure Ltd, will be carried out.

This involves the construction of several box culverts located in the vicinity of Bevin Avenue and the Shell gas station and the Pye River/ Howard Cooke intersection.

The UDC said improvement works are continuing on both sides of Alice Eldermire Drive. Permanent lights have also been installed at the Gloucester Avenue Amphitheatre and the Howard Cooke and Harbour Street intersections. Lights will be installed shortly at the Market Street intersection, the UDC said.

In an effort to minimise the inconvenience to motorists, the UDC noted that several measures have been implemented, which includes the posting of flagmen and the placing of signs along the route.
