RATES FOR overseas calls made from Cable & Wireless' fixed lines and World Talk cards are to be further reduced when a revised schedule of charges comes into effect on September 1, while some domestic services will cost more.
The company said in a release yesterday that charges for some domestic services are to be brought closer to the real cost of providing these services, resulting in increases in fixed line rental and domestic usage charges. The increases are part of the process started several years ago to remove subsidies from domestic rates in light of the liberalisation of the telecommunications sector, the statement said.
The revised rates will include reductions in the per minute charge for calls made from fixed lines and via World Talk calling cards to all overseas destinations - with the exception of Cuba; as well as reductions on rates charged for select speeds over international leased circuits on the Maya 1 fibre optic cable system.
The revised rates are in keeping with the price cap mechanism which determines the level of price movements on specified services.
