Letter Of The Day - The worst of crops
THE EDITOR, Sir: WELL, THE sugar crop has ended and it has been the disaster that I foresaw at the beginning of crop. This has been the worst crop in modern Jamaican history, but guess what? Next year will be worse.

Africans and 'wee-droppers'
THE EDITOR, Sir: THROUGH MY favourite, refreshing, irreverent columnist, Melville Cooke, my attention was drawn to Dawn Ritch's column about race, colour and leadership of black people in Jamaica.

Treat us right
THE EDITOR, Sir: IF ONE should examine most of the wholesale/retail outlets in the Cross Roads, Downtown Kingston and Spanish Town areas, one would realise that they all have something in common - they are owned and operated by Chinese or people of...

Education, not sterilisation
THE EDITOR, Sir: HAS THE Opposition gone mad?! We are to resort to draconian measures in order to combat teenage pregnancy? Sure, go ahead and violate the rights of young girls whose rights have already been taken advatage of by many men in our...

GCT bad for gaming
THE EDITOR, Sir: I DISAGREE with government's move to impose a 15 per cent tax on winnings from gaming. From a gaming standpoint, it seems to me that this move will cause an incremental decline in gaming patrons.

For better or for worse?
THE EDITOR, Sir: I HAVE been a customer in the Angels community in the Spanish Town district of the monopoly National Water Commission since 1999. Initially, there was reasonably good service, lock-offs now and then yes, but tolerable.

Teachers insulted
THE EDITOR, Sir: THE JAMAICAN teachers again have been hurled with insult. The ministry waited until the appointed time to inform teachers that their salaries would be late. It is no secret that the adage "work from han' to mout"" applies to teachers...

Having a say on the CCJ
THE EDITOR, Sir: Last evening, I had the extreme good fortune of attending a brilliantly-organised and presented panel discussion on the issue of a need for a referendum on the establishment of the CCJ hosted by the group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ).

The debate on removal
THE EDITOR, Sir: I AM not a politician and I am neither pro nor con the question of removal of appeals to the Privy Council. I only wish the parties to the debate would consider Section 100(5) of the Constitution which reads as follows:

Bravo Horace Williams
THE EDITOR, Sir: The former Mayor of Mandeville, Councillor Horace Williams is worthy of commendation for a job well done.
