published: Saturday | August 2, 2003

By George Henry, Gleaner Writer

SPALDINGS, Clarendon:

COLIN FEARON, 31-year-old taxi driver of Sunbury in Clarendon was stabbed to death in the town of Spaldings on Thursday afternoon following a dispute between himself and another man over money.

According to an eyewitness report, about 6:00 p.m. Fearon and another man from the community of Balcaress in Claren-don were engaged in an argument over money reportedly owed by Fearon to the man.

It is understood that the man who was responsible for the stabbing of Fearon approached him and asked him to pay what he owed. He reportedly said he could pay what was owed on Saturday of this week.

According to the eyewitness, the alleged killer, who is now in police custody, stated that he had no intention of waiting any longer for his money.

It is understood that after the man was told he would be paid on Saturday, Fearon walked to his car and just as he entered and sat down the man pulled a knife and stabbed him in the neck.

BLEEDING

Fearon who was bleeding profusely was rushed to the Percy Junior Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The man who was responsible for the stabbing then ran from the scene, but was held by the Spaldings police and taken into custody. Another man who is believed to be involved in the incident was also taken into custody.

It is understood that the police had to fire shots in the town of Spaldings to prevent one of the men now in custody from inflicting further stab wounds on the body of Fearon, when they arrived on the scene. The names of the two were not disclosed by the police.

The death of Fearon is the first case of murder to occur in the Spaldings area since the start of the year.
