By Angelo Laurence, Gleaner Writer

MANDEVILLE, Manchester:

A 49-YEAR-OLD woman lost her life when she was hit by a motor vehicle near the intersection of Waltham and Manchester roads in Manchester about 7:00 yesterday morning.

She has been identified as Marion Eubanks, a domestic helper from the parish.

According to the Mandeville police and eyewitness reports, Ms. Eubanks was walking along the roadway when she was hit by a Toyota Camry motor car being driven by Norris Knight, a student at Northern Caribbean University (NCU).

Constable Albert Simpson of the Mandeville police traffic division, told The Gleaner that Knight, who was driving towards Mandeville on Manchester Road, tried to apply his brakes after coming up on a line of vehicles. The car reportedly skidded to the left and hit Ms. Eubanks, sending her over a wall.

She was taken to the Mandeville Hospital where she was pronounced dead while Knight was arrested and charged with manslaughter. He is scheduled to appear before the Mandeville Resident Magistrate's Court today.

MAN KILLS SELF

For 45-year-old Lee Coley of Norway district, suicide was a better option than going to jail after he found out he was being sought by the Cottage police who had a warrant for his arrest.

According to the Mandeville police, Coley ,a farmer, died in the Percy Junior Hospital in Spaldings on Sunday morning, after drinking a liquid weed killer and complaining that he was not feeling well.

It is reported that Coley was wanted by the police on a charge of wounding with intent arising out of a dispute with 45-year-old Shiriline Freckleton of the same district.
