Windwards defeat Jamaica

JAMAICA'S YOUTH cricketers got off to a bad start at the TCL Group/West Indies Under-19 one-day competition in Guyana, losing by 27 runs to defending champions Windward Islands yesterday.

The match played at the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Ground saw Windwards, batting first make 185 all out off 50 overs. Jamaica then were restricted to 158 for nine in 50 overs.

Liam Sebastien top scored for the Windwards with 51, while Craig Emanuel got 45 against left-arm pacer Krishmar Santokie, 4-33, and off-spinner Gavin Wallace, 2-29.

When Jamaica replied, only Kingston College's left-handed batsman Jamie Trenchfield with an undefeated 56 could stand up against the Windwards' bowlers. Sebastien picked up 2-34.

AT BOURDA: Captain Martin Nurse struck a solid 107 and Barrington Yearwood took 7-37 to lead Barbados to a crushing 156-run win over the Leeward Islands.

Scores: Barbados 282-7 off 50 overs (Nurse 107, Dadrian Forde 55;

Jason Campbell 3-24). Leeward Islands 126 all out off 42.5 overs (Gavin Williams 51; Yearwood 7-37.

AT ENMORE: Ravi Rampaul continued where he left off last year when he captured six wickets to bowl Trinidad & Tobago to a comprehensive 124-run victory over Rest of Americas.

Scores: Trinidad & Tobago 190 off 48.2 overs (Dinesh Ramdin 68, Petroc Nicholas 24; Gregory Ebanks 4-49). Rest of Americas 66 all out off 26.3 overs (Roy Ebanks 16; Rampaul 6-10).

The competition continues today with Jamaica against Trinidad & Tobago at Uitvlugt, Leeward Islands face Guyana at Everest, Canada tackle Barbados at Diamond and Rest of Americas take on the Windward Islands at DCC.
