Independence float parade cancelled
published: Thursday | August 7, 2003

THE ANNUAL Grand Float Parade planned for yesterday's Independence Day celebrations in Kingston was cancelled by the organisers at the last minute.

"The float parade was cancelled, we will instead be focusing on the Miss Lou's concert tonight (August 6) at the Emancipation Park," a source connected to the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission told The Gleaner last night. He gave no reason for the cancellation.

The event was planned by the Festival 2003 Committee for all 14 parishes but, The Gleaner understands, a last-minute decision was made to call off the Corporate Area parade. The grand Independence Day celebrations were also slated to feature civic ceremonies, floats, effigies and concerts.
