THE EDITOR, Sir:
THE FOUL language saga is in the air again. I would like to know how is a paid reggae show different from a movie theatre? Can the police issue a warrant for, let's say, Samuel L. Jackson or Chris Rock for swearing on screen?
This a violation of free speech.
I am sure that during a normal day if every Jamaican who swears should be prosecuted, half the country, including police officers, would be in court on the same day. The very people who served the summons to Sean Paul and to Bounty Killer last year use these same words.
I admire the work that Supt. Newton Amos is doing in St James but I think finding the guy who rapes kids is more important than prosecuting Sean Paul for swearing on stage.
I would love to see entertainers unite and not perform at Reggae Sumfest or any other show in Jamaica. Make a stand and see how it affects tourism and the vendors who were so happy after this year's Sumfest. I am sure the likes of Sean, Bounty and others can still earn their money. This is wasting taxpayers' money on foolishness.
I am, etc.,
