Jamaica defeat Canada
published: Sunday | August 10, 2003

LEFT-ARM PACER Krishmar Santokie took his second five-wicket haul to help Jamaica brush aside Canada by 186 runs in their consolation match for fifth place at the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 one-day tournament in Guyana yesterday.

Meanwhile, Trinidad & Tobago and Windward Islands will contest today's final following impressive victories over Barbados and Guyana in their respective semi-finals.

AT DCC, Jamaica amassed 269 for six from their 50 overs, to which Canada were bundled out for 83 in 37 overs.

Opener Xavier Marshall gave the Jamaicans early impetus as he struck 85, that included three sixes and six fours. However, it was a breath-taking 57 not out from Chadwick Walton that propelled the Jamaicans to their impressive total.

Walton reached his 50 off 17 balls as he smashed four sixes and five fours and after reaching his half century he celebrated by hitting another six. Jamie Trenchfield also had a fine innings, contributing 47 in the middle order.

When Canada batted, pacer Santokie proved to be a handful, taking five for 33 off his 10 overs, as none of the batsmen reached 20.

In the semi-final matches, Barbados 114 off 49.5 overs (Renaldo Parris 47, Barrington Yearwood 19; Kavesh Kantasingh 4-26, Ravi Rampaul 2-16) lost to Trinidad & Tobago 115 for six in 33.3 overs (Aaron Ragoonath 35) by six wickets at Enmore.

At Everest: Hosts Guyana 78 went down to Windwards 164 all out off 49.5 overs (Liam Sebastien 44, Craig Emannuel 32; Zaheer Mohammed 4-25, Sauid Drepaul 2-27) by 86 runs.
