First Touch football camp begins today
published: Monday | August 11, 2003

TODAY MARKS the start of the First Touch Football Camp 2003 to be held at Sts Peter and Paul Prep school.

The camp will be held over two one-week sessions (Aug 11-15 & Aug 18-22).

First Touch Football camp is the brain child of former Jamaica youth player Andre Virtue. Virtue is founder/Director of Ballaz whose mission is to use sports as a medium to encourage, inspire and challenge youth to become Christ-like individuals, outstanding athletes and responsible citizens.

"We at Ballaz seek to train the whole person; mentally, technically, socially and spiritually, thereby training not only great footballers, but young people of strong character. In creating opportunities for Jamaica's youth and nurturing their skill and abilities, we are able to empower them to become outstanding sports people, but more importantly outstanding individuals. Ultimately, we desire to renew their minds to positive and proactive ways of thinking enabling them to make positive changes in their own lives, their family, communities, the country and eventually the world," Virtue said.

This year Ballaz has again partnered with the SPACE (Sports Participation and Cultural Equality) Academy UK, whose influence spans the globe through workshops, camps and clinics held throughout the UK, Africa, Europe and the Caribbean. They will be sending two of their UEFA licensed coaches to work along with ten local coaches.

"We have also partnered with Whole Life Ministries and Locker Room Sports, as they share our commitment to use sports as a tool to impart discipline, values and a strong moral foundation in our youth," Virtue added.
