Congratulations
published: Friday | August 15, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PLEASE ALLOW me to congratulate all of the members of the selection board of the National Housing Trust for choosing Laura Facey Cooper's design for the Emancipation Park sculpture. Her finished product more than fulfils the promise of her prize-winning design, and now the average citizen can view first-hand the type of art that is usually reserved for those private citizens who can afford a hefty price tag.

This is a significant contribution to the campaign for positive values and attitudes and both the Hon. Rex Nettleford and art curator David Boxer who helped select Facey Cooper's work, deserve similar statues in Emancipation Park for their invaluable work in our cultural institutions.

It would be appropriate to commission Facey Cooper to immortalise these gentlemen in her distinct artistic style that easily compares with a Michel-angelo or a Maplethorpe.

I am, etc.,

ANTHONY SWABY
