Gay union in churches
published: Friday | August 15, 2003
THE EDITOR, Sir: I READ with interest the contribution of Devon Dick on the confirmation of a Rev. Gene Robinson as Bishop. As a member of the Anglican Church in the Bahamas I noted with interest that the convention that confirmed the Rev. Mr. Robinson refused to authorise the blessing of gay union in churches. The logical reason for the refusal is that the convention did not think that the unions ought to be recognised. It would therefore appear that not only could the Rev. Mr. Robinson not join with his "partner" but the church would not recognise it if he did. To me this is a tacit admission by the convention that the Rev. Mr. Robinson is living in an 'irregular' relationship. It is sad that the church's intolerance to sin did not extend to the issue of the confirmation of Robinson. I am, etc. WAYNE R.
