Half-way
published: Friday | August 15, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I HAD the pleasure to be present at the Prime Minister's award ceremony in Emancipation Park on July 30. Although I found the event to be wonderfully organised and orchestrated, I was greatly disturbed by the fact that the organisers felt it necessary only to have the first part of our National Anthem performed at what seemed to be a highly regarded, official ceremony attended by the Prime Minister, Governor-General, and other dignitaries. I can't imagine attending a similar event in, for example, America, and having the National Anthem just stop half-way through. In fact, the idea sounds absurd when you consider it. At the very least, I would expect the entire Anthem to be played at official and state functions, if nowhere else.

I am, etc.,
