THE POLICE are awaiting the ballistic report of a .380 semi-automatic pistol which was seized in Allman Town in Kingston yesterday, to determine whether it is the murder weapon that was used to kill Corporal Headley Davis.
Reports are that the illegal gun was found in the possession of a man who the police said was wanted for several counts of shooting. Police intelligence also suggest that the man is a prime suspect in the policeman's killing.
"The suspect will be facing an identification parade," said Deputy Superintendent Corneilius Walker, Crime Officer for the Kingston Central Division.
Members of the Special Anti Crime Task Force (SACTF), working in tandem with a team led by DSP Walker, yesterday swooped down on premises at 4 1/2 Water Street, Allman Town, after several hours of surveillance. The suspect and his girlfriend were taken into custody.
The police said they will be charged in connection with the gun and 10-rounds of ammunition which were also seized at the premises.
Corporal Headley, formerly of the Spring Mount Police Station in St. James, was gunned down on July 25. He was killed by gunmen during a robbery at a hardware store on Slipe Road, Kingston.
His killers took his licensed semi-automatic pistol and an undetermined sum of money. He had gone to the store to purchase material for a house he was building.
