BLUE CROSS of Jamaica has for the 10th straight year awarded scholarships to students who have been successful in the high school placement test.
On Thursday, the company presented cheques valued at $10,000 each to 19 Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT) scholars.
"Your success is an achievement that you can be justifiably proud of, but you must not become complacent," Richard Powell, president and chief executive officer of Blue Cross, told the scholarship recipients at an awards ceremony at the Ministry of Education's auditorium, Caenwood Centre, Kingston.
One of the criteria to retain the scholarships is that the students maintain an average of no less than 75 per cent.
Mr. Powell reminded the students that outstanding academic performance alone would not make them successful, but also the adoption of moral practices.
Education Minister, Maxine Henry-Wilson, also implored the students to be well rounded. "There will be many tests at high schools," she said, adding that "the test is not just (on) academic excellence, the test is also excellence as a person."
