Pensioner's plight
published: Wednesday | August 20, 2003
THE EDITOR, Sir: AFTER 18 years of retirement, I am still at a loss to know just why I am being victimised by the Government. On retirement from the Post & Telegraph Department, I got only $2,025 as lump sum payment after 27 years of recognised service. At present, my pension is $8,259 and I am told that after so many years of dedicated service I can't get the ceiling of $10,000, which is due. I challenge the Minister of Finance, who should not have the power to victimise me after so many years of service to Jamaica. No one should work for nearly 30 years and get $2,025 lump sum and $8,259 a year as pension. My title on my pay slip is "Public Officer". In conjunction with that title I should be getting the ceiling of $10,000, which, if pursued, is on my file at Post and Telegraph Department on South Camp Road. I am, etc., RALSTON E. WRIGHT Retired Assistant Inspector of Postmen.
