THE EDITOR, Sir:
PLEASE ALLOW me space to express some thoughts on the 2003 Denbigh Agricultural and Industrial Show staged over the period August 1-3. I would like first, to congratulate the organisers of the show and all involved for the staging of another successful show.
But I must, however, take issue with certain statements made in an article in The Gleaner of the ninth instant, captioned 'Huge Success for Denbigh Show' which have caused me to become very apprehensive.
Having served the Jamaica Agricultural Society, as an em-ployee from 1957 to 1995 and for the last eight years as a voluntary leader, attending the Denbigh Show every year over these 47 years, I cannot agree that the first and last days of this year's Denbigh Show were "the largest ever in the history of Denbigh."
Records at the JAS head office will support my apprehensiveness about this statement.
On the matter of quality and quantity of exhibits, yes, the show promoters have ventured into new areas but those of us who are and were involved in Denbigh Shows prior to 2003 will recall the high quality and volume of cattle and small livestock that used to be on display, a capacity-filled general exhibits booth, showjumping, farm equipment and we could go on naming quality and quantity displays that were on show at Denbigh over the years.
I am, etc.,
W.A. MORGAN
