Ja struggle against T&T
published: Thursday | August 21, 2003

IT IS said many times that it not over until the fat lady sings, but with rain and another poor batting display, Jamaica were made to struggle on the opening day of their TCL Group/West Indies Under-19 Championship match against Trinidad and Tobago at LBI in Guyana.

At the close of the opening day of their three-day encounter, Jamaica were struggling to 159 for seven, this as the batsmen once again failed to cope with danger man and Trinidad & Tobago first-class pacer Ravi Rampaul, who has so far taken 4-27.

Chadrick Walton, 34 not out, and Gavin Wallace, 13 not out, came together with Jamaica struggling on 103 for seven wickets and added a further 55 before a heavy downpour, accompanied by a thunderstorm, brought a premature end to the day's play.

Duran White, 44, and opening batsman Xavier Marshall, 26, also got among the runs for the Jamaicans who must win if they are to qualify for semi-finals.

At DCC: Defending champions Barbados secured first innings points from the Leeward Islands. Leewards 83 (Delon Skellekie 13; Barrington Yearwood 5-27, Kevin Stoute 2-2, Ruel Brathwaite 2-35). Barbados 116 for four (Jamal Smith 57 not out, Renaldo Parris 29, Stoute 17 not out).

At Everest: The Windward Islands easily took first innings points from the Rest of Americas (ROA). Rest of Americas 107 (Stephen Outerbridge 27; Liam Sebastien 5-24, Mervin Matthews 2-20). Windwards 124 for six (Sebastien 33, Craig Emanuel 34, Derwin Charles 25 not out).

At Bourda: Zaheer Mohammed and Davendra Mishoo shared seven wickets for Guyana to lead Canada on first innings. Canada 117 (Trevin Bastiampillai 36; Zaheer Mohammed 4-33, Davendra Mishoo 3-17). Guyana 112 for three.
