Jamaica face uphill task against T&T
published: Friday | August 22, 2003

IT WILL TAKE a miracle for Jamaica's young cricketers to pull off a victory against Trinidad and Tobago entering today's final day of their TCL Group/West Indies Under-19 Championships match at LBI in Guyana.

The young Jamaicans, who need an outright win to secure a semi-final place, closed day two on 20 for one, still 17 runs to make T&T bat again.

Scores: Jamaica 188 and 20 for one; Trinidad and Tobago 225.

Resuming on their overnight 158 for seven, Jamaica lost Gavin Wallace for 16, Alton Beckford, one, and Boris Hutchinson, zero. Chadrick Walton was left unbeaten on 55 against prime pacer Ravi Rampaul 5-44.

IN TROUBLE

In reply, Jamaica gave up a glorious opportunity to push for at least a first innings lead when they allowed Trinidad and Tobago to rally from a desperate 115 for six. Jonathan Augustus, 67, and Rampaul, 42, added 73 runs for the seventh wicket, a feat which saved the Trinidadians and pushed the Jamaicans further in trouble.

Off-spinner Garvin Wallace, with 3-86, was Jamaica's top bowler. He was well supported by pacer Borris Hutchinson with 2-21 and offspinner Howard Powell, 2-60.

Jamaica in arrears by 37 runs, ended the day on 20 for one, captain Simon Jackson, 12, and Duran White, six, will resume batting this morning. Xavier Marshall, two, was the man back in the pavilion.
