JPSCo rebates
published: Wednesday | August 27, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I NOTED with interest the concerns of Mr. J. Paul Morgan of the Office of Utilities Regulation regarding the apparent lack of interest in JPSCo. rebates, as published in The Gleaner, August 15, 2003. I think I may have one answer as to why so few people have stepped forward to claim their rebate.

Several months ago, upon seeing our company's name listed in the paper, I went to make claim on two, now closed, accounts our company had during the 1993-1995 period. Much to my chagrin, the only way to justify the claim was to provide proof of ownership of the account, which meant presenting a bill from the designated years. I think there are few people that keep old bills, laying around for up to eight or ten years, and certainty we haven't.

I am not sure what procedure to use in carrying out this rebate programme, but I am certain that if the presentation of a very old bill is one of the essential criteria, the programme will fail and it is not likely that many people will benefit from the programme.

I am, etc.,

RONALD GOOD
