WESTERN BUREAU:

A 12-YEAR-OLD boy was killed and 15 persons injured in two separate motor vehicle accidents in St. Elizabeth and St. James, yesterday.

The dead boy has been identified as Harve Senior, of Newton district, St. Elizabeth. His 16-year-old sister, Kishan Senior, has been admitted to the Black River Hospital in serious condition.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that about 6:45 a.m., the youngsters were standing at the side of the Newton main road in the parish, when they were hit by a Toyota Corolla motor car being driven by 17-year-old Gavin Dunn, also of Newton.

The injured children were taken to the Black River Hospital where the boy was pronounced dead. Dunn was detained by the Lacovia police, who are investigating the accident.

THREE-VEHICLE COLLISION

In the second accident, 14 people were injured in a three-vehicle collision along the Rose Hall main road in St. James. The accident occurred about 10 a.m. and involved a Freightliner motor truck, a Nissan Sunny motor car and a Toyota Hiace minibus.

The CCN reported that the truck and the motor car were travelling towards Falmouth when, on reaching the vicinity of the Seacastles Hotel, the driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and it crashed into the minibus, which was travelling in the opposite direction. The drivers of the car and bus, along with 12 passengers in the bus, were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where all were treated and released.

The Barrett Hall police have launched an investigation into the accident.
