Floods hit Middlesex
published: Thursday | August 28, 2003

THE METEOROLOGICAL Service has extended a flash flood watch for the island until 5:00 this morning.

The National Meteorological Service has advised the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) about the likelihood of flooding. The ODPEM is advising the public not to cross the flooded waterways, gullies and fordings.

There have been reports of flooding in the Nightingale Grove and Bushy Park areas of St. Catherine. There were also reports of flooding in the communities of Halse Hall, Adelaide Street, May Pen, Bauxite Crescent, Mineral Heights, and Newtown, Phase II, Hayes in Clarendon.

A flash flood watch means flash flooding is possible and citizens are advised to check precautionary measures, keep informed by listening to further releases from the Meteorological Service and be ready for quick action if flooding is observed, or if a warning is issued.

An active tropical wave now over the island will continue to produce moderate to heavy, and occasionally very heavy showers and thunderstorms across the island this afternoon. These showers and thunderstorms could linger.
