Untouchable Strikers poised to take title

THE STAGE is set for an exciting second showdown between Barbican and Untouchable Strikers out of Montego Bay as they battle for the JFF/Sherwin Williams women's football title this afternoon at 3:00.

Untouchable Strikers will be travelling to Kingston today at the Barbican playfield to finish what they started on Thursday where they won the first game of the final 2-0.

Like them, hosts Barbican are keen on getting the title and they are certainly not going down without a fight.

Barbican advanced to the final after outclassing last year's champions, Portmore Strikers, 6-2 and will today be looking to celebrate the way they did a week ago.

The Charlie Edwards-coached team will be banking on its pool of national representatives, including Nikkesha Thomas, Nicole Bell, Jodi-Ann McGregor, Taneisha Francis, Tekamae Jolly, Tanesha Francis and others.

Untouchables also have their share of 'nationals' in Suzette Murray, foreign-based Meg Stern, Kimberlyn Petgrave and Paula Ebanks.

Coach Stephen Petgrave is not one to tout the skill of his group, hence there is no message per se for Barbican.

"We're going out there to do what we have to do and that is win. We had a good start last week so we're going to build on that foundation," Petgrave said.

"The players are conditioned and ready to go. Strong is how I would describe them at this point.

"I've already told them that we have 90 minutes of ball so there will be no room to relax. We have no injuries so I don't see what should stop us," he said.
