Creary, opened his division office this past Saturday at the Chokelal Building in Castleton, St. Mary. The office was officially opened by the Most Honourable Edward Seaga, Leader of the Opposition. Mr. Seaga, in noting that he was delighted to be a part of the event, praised Mr. Creary for taking "this positive stride" in an effort to provide better representation for the people of the Castleton division. "You have brought new life to the Castleton division and to St. Mary," Mr. Seaga said. "This office is an indication of your commitment to the division and I see great things in the future of this parish." The function was chaired by Mr. Creary's younger brother, Richard Creary, Deputy Mayor and Councillor for the Richmond Division. He also had high praises for his brother, noting that he had "raised the bar for all councillors." He went on to say that he was indeed proud of the work his brother had done and that he was certain that the people of the Castleton division would benefit greatly from his representation. Mayor of St. Mary, His Worship Robert Montague, also addressed the gathering, taking the opportunity to make the point that councillors could not be expected to fulfil all the needs of the people in their respective divisions. "It is not every problem that we will as councillors be able to solve but we will endeavour to do our best for you," Mayor Montague said. The Mayor was also particularly delighted with the office, which he said was a step in the right direction for the people of the Castleton division. "This will allow the people in the division to come to the office and meet with their councillor and sit and talk with him, he will be here every week, this shows that he is taking his job as councillor for this division very seriously," Mayor Montague asserted. SPEAKERS Other speakers at the function included Member of Parliament for St. Thomas, James Robertson, Councillor for Port Maria, Fitz Maurice Gray and the Councillor for the Hamstead Division, Barton Oliver. Don Creary, Councillor for the Castleton Division thanked the persons who had helped to make the office and the official opening a success and assured the division of Castleton that he would be doing his best as Councillor. Mr. Creary ex-plained that unlike many of his colleagues, he was taking a different approach to tackling the problems in the division. "I have set up community groups in each part of the Castleton division," Mr. Creary said. "These groups are responsible for undertaking work and projects for their respective communities. I am pleased to say that many of these groups have begun to carry out work voluntarily and save the money dispensed to them, for bigger projects. By doing this each community, and hopefully each person, will benefit during my tenure."
