
PARIS, France: JAMAICA'S Deon Hemmings has been elected to the IAAF's Athletes Commission.
Hemmings is one of 12 athletes elected following a four-day process here where accredited athletes voted for their peers.
The 1996 Atlanta Olympics 400m hurdles gold medallist got 553 votes, the seventh highest of the 26 candidates.
Ethiopia's Haile Gebrselassie received the highest number of votes (733), followed by Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj (654) and Debbie Ferguson (633) of the Bahamas.
French 400m hurdler Stephane Diagana was fourth with 611, one ahead of the world 400m champion Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic.
The other members of the Commission are Kenya's Paul Tergat sixth on 575, eighth Russia's Irina Privalova (482), followed by Slovenia's Jolanda Ceplak (475), Ireland's Sonia O'Sullivan (475), Britain's Paul Radcliffe (465) and Qatar's Faraj Ibrahim Ismail (460).
