CABLE AND Wireless Jamaica (C&WJ) will cut 200 jobs at the end of September as the company concludes its restructuring programme in preparation for "new market conditions" in the telecommunications industry.
"The majority of the positions are in two divisions, Network Services and Sales and Services, and the redundancies will arise from mergers of departments, business office rationalisation and other operational efficiency projects," C&WJ said in a release yesterday.
Three of the company's business offices will be closed as of September 26, the North Pembroke office at Mary Brown's corner in St. Andrew, the Ocho Rios business office on Graham Street, St. Ann, and the Negril business office in the Plaza de Negril, Westmoreland.
"The closure of these business offices is part of C&WJ's rationalisation initiative which will see more extensive use being made of the company's significant investment in its Customer Care Centre as well as its third party collection partners (Commercial Banks, Paymaster, Bill Express and Jamaica National and Victoria Mutual branches)," the company said.
