7 killed in a day
published: Wednesday | September 3, 2003

By Glenroy Sinclair, Staff Reporter

ELEVEN PERSONS were murdered over the past three days in separate incidents in the Corporate Area of Kingston and St. Andrew and three other parishes.

Seven of the homicides took place yesterday, pushing the country's murder toll to 634 since January.

Among the killings yesterday was a double murder which rocked the Gregory Park community of Portmore, south St. Catherine. Those killed in that incident have been identified as Javain Cunningham and Paul Wilson. A third person was also shot and injured.

Reports are that at about 11:30 a.m. Cunningham and Wilson were attacked by a group of gunmen in an area known as Lesser Portmore. The police attribute the killings to an ongoing gang feud in the area.

Yesterday's double murder came on the heels of last week's triple murder, also in Portmore. According to police records, there have been 22 reported cases of double murder since the start of the year.

Listed among the other victims are Lancelot Lloyd Richards of a St. Ann address. He was stabbed at about 11:45 a.m. at a bike repair shop in Brown's Town, following an argument between himself and another man. Allegations are that the man who was demanding money from Richards, escaped in a waiting car.

Ricardo Brown of Dennis Avenue, Kingston 11, was gunned down by unknown assailants while walking in the community. About 12:30 p.m. Delroy Lewis, 38, otherwise called 'Screechy Dellie', was shot and killed in Ferry district, St. Catherine. The police have reported an ongoing feud in this community. It is alleged that Lewis was killed as a reprisal for a previous killing in the area.

FOUND IN HIS BED

In Clarendon, a 45-year-old businessman, Hexon Kerr, was found in his bed with gunshot wounds. Reports are that he was last seen alive about 9:00 p.m. on Monday with a female friend. He was found dead about 6:15 a.m. yesterday.

The seventh victim is an unidentified woman who was found with her face partially burnt and gunshot wounds to the body. The woman was discovered by citizens in the Moneague area of St. Ann shortly after 7:00 a.m.
