Adjusting the fare increase
published: Wednesday | September 3, 2003

THE EDITOR, Sir:

PLEASE ALLOW me space in your very important daily paper to express my opinion on the new bus fare increase and to make a few points on further adjustments.

On Wednesday August 13, 2003, Minister Pickersgill announced the bus fare increase and I have taken note of it, but I would like to make a few comments on aspects of the fare increase and how he could make just two adjustments.

In fares for the individuals (students) in uniform and retired persons, instead of the students who are older than twelve (12) years old paying $15.00, they could pay a round $20.00 and retired persons pay $25.00. This would cause a better running of the fare structure and a bit more revenue for the JUTC. When too much change is to be made, it causes too much problems and confusion and as a result causes quarrels.

Please Minister, review this aspect of the fare structure and see if you will not have a more coherent condition. I know some will say that is an additional increase, but you will surely end up with less chaos and a better running situation.

I am, etc.,

STEVE MALCOLM

St. Catherine
