Elderly woman killed in accident
published: Wednesday | September 3, 2003

THE CENTRAL Village police have taken one man into custody following a fatal accident that took the life of a female, around 75 years old, on Monday.

Cpl. Ainsworth Jones, of the Central Village police, told The Gleaner that on Monday, about 1:30 a.m., a 1992 Red Geo Metro motor car was travelling easterly (towards Kingston) when, on reaching about 100 metres along the Mandela Highway, it hit the elderly woman from behind. She reportedly died on the spot.

DRINKING

The driver of the car, 25-year-old Dwight Lee, of a Duhaney Park address, went to the police and was arrested and charged for having no insurance coverage and drinking above the prescribed limit.

The police are currently conducting investigation in the case of manslaughter and a file is to be sent to the Clerk of Courts, Spanish Town, for a ruling.
