THE NATIONAL Water Commission (NWC) is advising customers served by the Christiana/Spalding water supply system in Manchester, that the current disruption in their regular water supply is due to severe flooding and consequent electrical problems at the Moravia Treatment Plant in the parish.
Heavy rainfall in the area on Wednesday also resulted in high levels of turbidity in the river source the NWC said. Operations have therefore halted for the time being while engineers work to resolve the problem. It is estimated that full operations may not be restored before Saturday, September 6.
ASSISTANCE
Affected customers requiring assistance with trucked water are therefore being asked to contact the NWC's Ward Avenue Office. Areas affected include: Moravia, Christiana, Spalding, Coleyville, Pike, Dump, Devon, Malton, Succeed, Sedburgh, Silent Hill and Spring Ground.
And the NWC has advised that customers served by the Minard Deep Well in Brown's Town, St. Ann, will continue to experience disruptions in their piped water supply until Friday, September 12. This disruption is as a result of electrical problems at the Minard Deep Well, caused from recent lightning and thunderstorms.
Customers are being advised that water will be trucked to affected areas during the period of outage. These areas include: Main Street, Huntley, Ingleside, Addison Park, Aberdeen, Benin, Orange Hill, Lincoln Road, Liberty Valley, Top Road, St. Christopher, Crescent, Waltham Heights, Goshen and Minard Heights.
