JAMAICA'S ASAFA Powell will face a strong 100 metres field when he lines up in today's sixth and final IAAF Golden League/Memorial Van Damme Meeting in Brussels, Belgium.
The national 100m champion, who was disqualified from the quarter-finals at the recently concluded World Championships for a false start, will try to make a strong impression against a competitive field.
Powell is expected to face American John Capel, who won in Berlin (10.23) and Zurich (9.97) and was second in Paris to compatriot Coby Miller (10.19), American Bernard Williams, who won race one in Paris (10.05), Trinidadian Ato Boldon and Great Britain's Mark Lewis-France and Dwain Chambers.
Meanwhile, all eyes will be on Maria Mutola of Mozambique who is just one win away from the US$1 million jackpot. Mutola is heading for the Golden League sweep after winning in Oslo (2:00.62), Paris (1:57.58), Rome (1:57.21), Berlin (1:59.01) and Zurich (1:59.93).
Also scheduled to participate today is former Jamaican sprint queen Merlene Ottey, who now competes for Slovenia. Ottey will contest 200m against Cayman Island's Cydonie Mothersill, Jenny Adams of the US and France's Sylviane Felix.
The women's 100m will feature Christine Arron of France, Zhanna Block of Ukraine, Torri Edwards, Chryste Gaines and World Championships sprint double champion Kelli White and Bahamian Chandra Sturrup.
