Jamaica Under-23 team takes on Cuba

JAMAICA'S NATIONAL Under-23 football team tackles hosts Cuba in a first round Olympic qualifying game this afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Havana.

The team left the island on Friday evening in a bid to increase its chances of representing Jamaica at the 2004 Olympics in Greece.

National Under-23 coach Peter Cargill has control of the squad as technical director Carl Brown is in Reading, England supervising the senior team, which play Australia this morning at 8:00.

The young Reggae Boyz have never made it to the Olympic Games but, according to information coming out of the camp, the vibes are high and the players are aiming to become the first Jamaican team to qualify.

The Jamaica squad: Allien Whittaker, Richard McCallum, Sheldon Battiste, Alex Thomas, Wayne Ellis, Desmond Breakenridge, Garfield Reid, Tyrone Sawyers, Damion Williams, Khari Stephenson, Cleveland Taylor, Adam Wallace, Weston Forrest, Roland Dean, Simieon Howell, Christopher Harvey, Demar Phillips, and Lenworth Hyde.

The team returns to the island tomorrow morning.
