THE EDITOR, Sir:
I READ a front-page article in last week's Sunday Gleaner and I would like to keep it in the forefront of the minds of the Jamaican people. We need to understand that we have to buy Jamaican to keep Jamaica in jobs.
I am in the garment industry in the Old Harbour area. I have had to lay off my staff. I am trying to stay above water (actually drowning). Most large companies don't want to have their uniforms made locally. Their excuse is quality and delivery time. But I think it's just an excuse.
Take for example, the textbooks being printed that was given out overseas. Do we know what delivery time they have. School is already in session and still no books and no delivery date.
I think the Bank of Jamaica, other banks, Air Jamaica, etc., should gladly and proudly have their uniforms made in Jamaica. Look at RBTT, they are Trinidadian and have their uniforms sent from Trinidad. We give up on our country too soon and put our people out of jobs.
I am asking people to boycott foreign goods that are in direct competition with Jamaica. I can't emphasise enough, "Keep Jamaica Working, Buy Jamaican".
I am etc.,
