UWI law student awarded Tastee scholarship

TWENTY-FOUR-YEAR-OLD BERTRAM Anderson, a second-year law student at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona, is the recipient of the 2003/2004 Tastee Law scholarship.

Mr. Anderson, who is from the district of Leith Hall, St. Thomas, is a past student of the Barking Lodge Primary School and the Morant Bay High School. He entered the UWI in the 1998/1999 academic year, in the Faculty of Social Science.

Mr. Anderson holds a Master's of Science in Political Theory and Comparative Politics, and a BA (Hons) in Psychology and Political Science. He was offered a place in the Faculty of Law, where he did his first year studies. Now in his second year, he will complete his studies at the Cave Hill Campus in Barbados.

The value of the Tastee scholarship for the law degree is $100,000.00 per year, with a maximum duration of 2 years. The scholarship is renewable for each successive year on the basis of the recipient's academic performance.

Since the inception of the Tastee tertiary scholarship awards programme in 1996, the company has donated over $4 million to the fund. Scholarships are granted to students at three major tertiary institutions, UWI, University of Technology (UTech) and Mico College. Scholarships at UWI are awarded to students studying in the fields of nursing, law and medicine. At UTech, scholarships are awarded to students in the areas of Engineering and Hospitality Tourism Management, while at Mico Teachers' College, the Tastee scholarships are awarded to students in Special Education ­ Mild Disabilities and Guidance Counselling.
